Step Up

If you are looking for ways to improve the bottom line focus and performance of your learning or training resources - the Step Up Series is for you. We have a group of workshops that allow you to optimize your training efforts, link results to the bottom line and ensure that the skills that you train get transferred to the job.

A Business Approach to Training

If you would like to become more of a business partner, then this workshop will point the way. You will see how your organization stacks up to the best practices of strategic training organizations and learn how to view training from a business perspective. This half day workshop will change the way you look at your role – and possibly how others in the organization view you as well.

High Impact Training

This half day workshop is for trainers who want to move past presenting and into facilitating learning. You will learn how to use openers to Start Strong, how to use interactive activities to engage your learners, how to use smart techniques to increase retention and how to End with a Bang, to garner commitment and follow through. Filled with practical tips and ideas, you’ll come away with ideas that you can implement immediately.

Training Evaluation: The Basics

Do you want to do a better job at evaluating training, but don’t know where to start? In this ½ workshop you’ll learn the basics of Phillip’s 5 level training evaluation process and then determine how to choose the evaluation methodology that works for your organization. You will come away with a purpose driven approach and tools to help you get started improving the training effectiveness in your organization.

Leveraging Needs Assessments

Viewing training from a results based and performance focused approach will help you determine the right human performance solution to achieve the goals of your organization. You will learn how to conduct a needs assessment and how to engage your business partners in determining the appropriate learning solution in this ½ day workshop.

Taking Stock: Level 1 Evaluations

Does your organization want to begin to use evaluations, but doesn’t know how to get started? This 1/2 day program can help you implement and leverage basic level one evaluations – to determine that the trainees did learn something in the training session and that the environment was conducive for learning. You will learn how to construct Likert Scales, Behaviorally Anchored Scales and take away some creative ways to measure learner satisfaction.

Checking for Results: Level 2 Evals

Spend 4 hours and learn how to measure learning gain to determine how much learning has occurred. If the word “test” strikes fear in your learners, you will find out how to build support for Level 2 evaluations. You’ll learn how to construct written tests and assessments as well as how to use skill application assessments such as simulations, role plays, case studies and OJT demonstrations.

Learning Transfer: Make Training Sticky

Research shows us that 80% of training dollars are wasted due to the fact that very little of what is taught ever makes it back to the workplace. There are powerful techniques that can dramatically improve learning transfer – most of which can be implemented with a shift in attitude and approach rather than a large dollar investment. Come learn how to make your training “stick” in this ½ day workshop.

On-the-job Training and Coaching Skills

On-the-Job (OJT) training is the most widely used method to teach job skills. By using a structured approach, the effectiveness of your OJT training can be enhanced greatly. In this 1 ½ day workshop, you will learn how to become a proficient on-the-job trainer and workplace coach. Skills include preparing for an OJT session, using a 4-step learning process, using a coaching process, developing participation, providing feedback, and working with adult learners. Workshop participants have an opportunity for practice and feedback in teaching their own content. This session accommodates 12 participants.

Facilitating For Results

As experienced facilitators know, the ability to be responsive to group needs and dynamics while staying focused on achieving the learning goals or meeting goals can be a challenge. This course will develop and hone participant’s abilities to masterfully facilitate groups – with a focus on a learning context. Participants will explore their personal styles as facilitators and be able to understand the impact of that style. They will learn how to plan for sessions, how to use a 4 step learning process, how to establish credibility, open sessions, encourage and manage participation, use visual aids and to keep sessions interesting and engaging. Each participant will learn by doing – and will be able to practice their facilitations skills two different times with coaching and feedback provided.
